Nagesh Kumar

Nagesh Kumar is Director of the Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID), New Delhi, India. In 2024, he was nominated by the Government of India as an external member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a four-year term. He is also a Non-Resident Senior Fellow of UNU-WIDER, Helsinki, and the Boston University Global Development Policy Centre (BU-GDPC), Boston, USA. Before taking up the ISID position in May 2021, Dr. Kumar served as Director at the Bangkok-based United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) for 12 years. During 2002–2009, Dr. Kumar served as the Director-General of the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), a government policy think tank. A PhD from the Delhi School of Economics, Dr Kumar is the recipient of the Exim Bank’s first International Trade Research Award in 1990, the GDN’s Research Medal awarded by the World Bank and the Japanese Government in Tokyo in 2000, and the Distinguished Alumnus Award of the Delhi School of Economics in 2023. Dr. Kumar has researched extensively on different aspects of economic development, resulting in the publication of 20 books and over 125 peer-reviewed papers.

Anjali Tandon is an Associate Professor at the Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID), New Delhi, India. Her research focuses on industry, energy, and international trade within a multisectoral framework. Her extensive experience, spanning over 25 years, has been in the form of projects and publications primarily covering topics such as the energy economy, industry, export diversification, FTAs, agricultural subsidies, and fiscal allocative efficiency. Her applied work predominantly involves input-output-based analysis and CGE modelling. Her recent book, Labour and Capital Use in Indian Manufacturing: Structural Aspects, was published in 2024. Her earlier co-authored book, Measuring Structural Change and Energy Use in Indian Economy, was published in 2019.

Santosh Kumar Das is an Assistant Professor at the Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID), New Delhi, India. His research interests and current work include macroeconomics of development, financing industrial development, India’s banking sector, public sector enterprises, financialisation and corporate sector, and political economy. He holds a PhD in economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, with a focus on macroeconomics.
