José A. Méndez Dot. B.Sc. in Geochemistry (2008), M.Sc. (2011) and Ph.D. (2017) in Geological Sciences (all titles awarded by the Central University of Venezuela, UCV), Postdoctoral Researcher (2018-2020, Complutense University of Madrid). Dr. Méndez Dot has focused his professional career on the study of Cretaceous source rocks (black shales) and carbonate reservoirs in both the Venezuelan oil industry and academia, as well as the study of modern Caribbean reef complexes of Venezuela. He has served as both Magister and PhD lecturer at UCV (School of Geology, Mines and Geophysics) and as researcher at the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Investigations (IVIC).
José Méndez Baamonde. B.Sc. in Geology (1975, Complutense University of Madrid), M.Sc. in Sedimentary Geology and Petroleum Geology (1981, UCV), and Ph.D. in Geological Sciences (1984, UCV). He began his scientific career in the mid-70s working for the Ministry of Geology and Mines of Venezuela, where he focused on the study of modern Caribbean reef complexes of Venezuela, becoming a pioneer in the field of the geology of Quaternary carbonate systems in that country. This included his participation in the project “The Cousteau Odyssey”, led by the explorer and researcher Jacques Cousteau, in which he was the geologist in charge of that project across the Venezuelan Antilles. Full Professor at UCV (Institute of Earth Sciences, Faculty of Sciences), Professor Dr. Méndez Baamonde has been a consultant for the Venezuelan oil industry for more than 30 years in the areas of carbonate sedimentology, stratigraphy, source rocks, and reservoirs.
