This surgery remains the only option for patients with severe stroke in the eye. He was also the first to report the use of hyperbaric oxygen treatment to successfully treat dry age-related macular degeneration and longer standing central retinal artery occlusions.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cp\u003eDr. Weiss performed the first retinal stem cell surgery in 2010, and is the Principal Investigator of The Stem Cell Ophthalmology Treatment Studies I\/II, the largest retinal and optic nerve stem cell studies in the world, and The Neurologic Stem Cell Treatment Study.
